“LABOR OF OUR FRUIT”

In the summer of 2020, I spent a few weeks with Bay Area muralist Patrick Hofmeister documenting the installation of his 4,000 square-foot mural dubbed “Labor of our Fruit” in Downtown San Jose. The mural, depicting a honeybee, pays tribute to immigrants.

“The Honeybee catalyzed California agriculture, and proved how invaluable immigrants, no matter their size, stature, or from where they came, can revolutionize the world for the better.” - City of San Jose

The Honeybee, not native to North America, was first introduced to the west coast in 1853 by Christopher Shelton of San Jose.
